Back in the old days when a
two-lane road crossed the desert
to Las Vegas; hot; dusty
travelers used to stop at the
California-Nevada state line at a
two-pump gas station on the spot
where Whiskey Pete's Casino
stands today. The gas counter was
run by a crusty; old-west
character who got his nickname
from the whiskey; still he
operated in a cave across the
road from his gas station. Being
a curious sort of fellow; Whiskey
Pete wanted to be buried watching
the highway. So today; he rests
nearby; watching Stateline grow
and keeping an eye on everyone
who goes by!
